Isle of Wight
Separated from the mainland by the Solent, the Isle of Wight offers a refreshing antidote to the rush and hurry of busy lives, an opportunity to experience a slower way of doing things, a gentler pace in an environment that often seems content to let the modern world race by.

Isle of Wight highlights

Charming country towns - such as Yarmouth, Freshwater and Bembridge - with traditional shopping facilities, local crafts, galleries, antique shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Delightful villages - such as Godshill, Bonchurch and Shorwell - with thatched cottages and glimpses of England as it was in days gone by.

Seaside resorts - such as Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor - with pleasant beaches, safe bathing, promenades and, in the case of Sandown, a Victorian pier.

Extensive, unspoilt countryside - farmland, chalk downs, rivers and creeks and woodlands - with many public footpaths

English Heritage properties - Carisbrook Castle, Osborne House - home of Queen Victoria - and Yarmouth Castle

Alum Bay - and its famous multi-coloured sands

** New Forest ponies and other animals**
The New Forest
Commoners' ponies, cattle, pigs, sheep and donkeys are a popular part of the New Forest scene, but during 2019 agisters attended 159 road traffic accidents involving these animals, a small but disappointing increase on the 154 accidents attended in 2018.

Sadly, 58 animals were killed - 35 ponies, 13 cows, 8 donkeys and 2 sheep, whilst a further 32 were injured - 3 pigs, 9 donkeys, 11 cows and 9 ponies.

(Forty-three accidents occurred in daylight, 15 at twilight and 101 in the dark. Twenty-seven accidents were not reported by the driver involved).

Here's just one horrific example - Three donkeys killed in collision with van at notorious New Forest blackspot (Advertiser and Times)
