Reptiles and amphibians

All Britain’s native reptiles are present in the New Forest, encouraged by the relatively mild climate – that’s adders, grass snakes, smooth snakes, slow worms, common lizards and incredibly scarce sand lizards.

A range of amphibians also breed in permanent or temporary pools, including, of course, common frogs and toads, but also smooth, palmate and great crested newts.

Please be patient, though, as these pages will be loaded soon.

This web site was first published in April, 2008.

During the coming weeks, further wildlife information will be loaded, and a What's On? section added.

By the end of 2008, New Forest History will be detailed, and sections included relating to Beaulieu, Brockenhurst and Burley.
